Dr. Barry D. Silverman
Dr. Silverman joined the Emory faculty in 1973 and began a teaching and clinical cardiology program at Northside Hospital. After six years on the Emory facult, he left to become the chief of cardiology at Northside Hospital where he ran the department for the next 27 years. He is a teacher and has mentored medical students and cardiology fellows for forty years and remains on the clinical faculty of Emory Medical School. He is a member in the American College of Physicians and the American College of Cardiology and served as chairman of their state educational programs. He serves on the board of the county medical society of the American Medical Association. He has served as editor of the Medical Association of Atlanta’s journal Atlanta Medicine. He is the author of chapters in 5 books and has 35 published articles in the literature. He is married and has two children and three grandchildren. Currently, he continues to practice cardiology with Northside Cardiology and teach on the Emory service at Grady Memorial Hospital.

After retiring as the founder of the pediatric ICU of the Scottish Rite Campus of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the founder and long time director of Atlanta’s busiest special care nursery, Saul Adler, MD, FAAP, MAPW completed a Master of Arts degree in Professional Writing from Kennesaw State University, part of the University of Georgia system. He currently lives with his wife in Dunwoody, Georgia where he writes short stories, novels and screenplays informed by his medical experiences. His short stories have been published in Atlanta Medicine, The Chattahoochee Review, and The Examined Life, as well as in an anthology devoted to Georgia authors. He serves on the screening committee of the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival and as an assistant editor of Narrative, the on-line literary magazine. He is the co-author of the book, Your Doctors’ Manners Matter: Better Health through Civility in the Doctor’s Office and in the Hospital.
